The International Cricket Council (ICC) has immediately suspended USA Cricket’s membership, though the country’s teams will continue competing as they prepare for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
The ICC Board made the decision due to USA Cricket’s “repeated and ongoing violations of its responsibilities as an ICC member under the ICC’s constitution,” according to a statement released late Tuesday.
These violations include failing to establish a functional governance structure and showing “insufficient progress toward obtaining National Governing Body status with the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC).”

The ICC also mentioned “significant actions that have damaged cricket’s reputation in the United States and globally,” without specifying further.
Despite the suspension, the U.S. men’s team will participate in the T20 World Cup next February, with team management temporarily overseen by the ICC.
The U.S. team advanced to the Super Eight stage at the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup, securing a spot in the 2026 tournament.
The ICC described the suspension as an “unfortunate but necessary measure to protect the game’s long-term interests.”
“Ensuring that athletes and the sport remain unaffected by the suspension is the ICC’s top priority,” they added.
Previously, USA Cricket was “put on notice” during the 2024 ICC annual general meeting for “non-compliance with membership criteria” and given 12 months to enact the required changes.
