India Tightens Oversight on IndiGo After Cancellations

India’s aviation authority has stationed its personnel at IndiGo’s headquarters to oversee the airline’s network and recovery efforts. This move comes as the country intensifies its oversight of its largest airline following widespread flight cancellations.

IndiGo is yet to provide a comment on the situation.

The assigned personnel will monitor various aspects of IndiGo’s operations, including crew usage, unexpected leaves, and routes impacted by crew shortages. They are required to submit daily reports to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, according to an official order.

Another team will focus on IndiGo’s punctuality, flight cancellations, baggage handling, and passenger refunds.

The airline has faced criticism for cancelling over 2,000 flights after underestimating the number of pilots needed for its winter schedule, following new duty and rest rules implemented on November 1.
