An Iraqi security source told ‘Shafaq News’ that the incident occurred when the policeman shot himself with his government-issued M4 rifle while on duty at a checkpoint at the airport, resulting in critical injuries. The authorities have formed a task force and opened an investigation to determine whether the incident was a suicide attempt or due to other circumstances.
However, the Baghdad International Airport administration later denied reports about hearing gunfire inside the airport. They added that air traffic continues normally without any delays or stoppages and urged media outlets to “exercise accuracy and caution in reporting news and to obtain information from official sources.”
