The Iranian Foreign Ministry stated in a release today, Sunday, that “Araqchi expressed to his Afghan counterpart, via phone, his concern over the continued tension between the two Muslim neighbors, Pakistan and Afghanistan.”

Tensions have escalated along the Durand Line, the disputed border between Pakistan and Afghanistan, since mid-October 2025, after Kabul accused Islamabad of “violating” its airspace and launching raids on Afghan territory. The Afghan Ministry of Defense announced that it had successfully carried out a “retaliatory operation” against Pakistan.

On October 19th, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Pakistan and Afghanistan had agreed to an “immediate ceasefire during negotiations in Doha, and to ensure the sustainability of the ceasefire and monitor its implementation, the neighboring countries decided to hold additional meetings.”
