Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, stated in a message to the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, that the notification by the three European countries of the initiation of the so-called ‘Snapback’ sanctions mechanism on Iran is legally and procedurally flawed and void.
He pointed out that these countries have failed to fulfill their commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and have continued to undermine Resolution 2231 through practices beyond its scope.
Araghchi condemned what he described as the ‘misuse of the Snapback mechanism’ and attempts to revive expired resolutions as legally and politically unjustified.
He noted that issues related to Iran’s nuclear program were resolved within the nuclear agreement and Resolution 2231, and that military actions against peaceful facilities have changed the facts on the ground.
He mentioned that the behavior of some countries, including military actions by Israel and America, has made previous decisions incompatible with the new reality.
He affirmed that Iran will not recognize any attempt to extend or reactivate restrictions related to the nuclear file after October 18, 2025, and that like any country, it is not bound by void procedures.
He concluded by saying that Iran remains open to diplomacy for fair and sustainable solutions but will firmly defend its sovereign rights and interests and will respond appropriately to any abuse or coercion.
