According to the letter, Araqchi requested “the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council, in accordance with their responsibility to maintain international peace and security, to take appropriate measures to ensure accountability of the United States, the Israeli entity, and the perpetrators of these crimes and bring them to justice,” according to “Fars.” He stated: “Accordingly, the Islamic Republic of Iran reserves its indisputable right to use all available legal channels to hold accountable the responsible states and individuals and to seek compensation for the resulting damages.” He added: “The United States is obliged to fully compensate for the material and moral damages inflicted on Iran and Iranian citizens as a result of these violations.” He continued: “This includes the obligation to compensate for the damage by restoring the situation to its previous state and paying compensation based on established principles of international law.” Recently, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed responsibility for the initial Israeli attack on Iran, contradicting previous American assertions that the Israeli government acted independently. Trump stated to reporters last Thursday: “Israel attacked first, it was a very powerful attack, and I was entirely responsible for it.” He added: “When Israel attacked Iran first, it was a great day for Israel because that attack caused more damage than all other attacks combined.” On June 13, 2025, Israel launched surprise airstrikes in an operation called “Rising Lion,” targeting military sites and nuclear facilities in Iran, most notably the main uranium enrichment facility in Natanz. The Israeli strikes resulted in the deaths of several prominent nuclear scientists, military leaders, and Iranian officials, including the commander of the Revolutionary Guards, Hossein Salami, the Chief of General Staff, Mohammad Bagheri, and the commander of the Aerospace Force of the Revolutionary Guards, Amir Ali Hajizadeh. Iran retaliated with missile strikes against Israel in a military operation called “True Promise 3,” targeting dozens of military sites and air bases in Israel, asserting that the operation would continue as long as necessary. Israel justified its attacks by stating that Iran had reached the “point of no return” in uranium enrichment and was approaching the acquisition of a nuclear weapon, a claim Tehran denies, insisting its nuclear activities are solely for peaceful purposes. The United States also launched an attack on three Iranian nuclear facilities in Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan on the night of June 22. According to Washington, “the attack was intended to destroy or significantly weaken Iran’s nuclear program.” Days later, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards announced a response against the United States by striking the U.S. base “Al-Udeid” in Qatar, leading to a cease-fire agreement between Tehran and Tel Aviv.
