The senior advisor to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei for international affairs stated in a post on the “X” platform today, Monday: “Some arrogant governments, which ignore their own interests and those of the region, have reintroduced the issue of the Zangezur Corridor, striving to achieve illegitimate goals in the South Caucasus,” according to the Mehr News Agency.
In a speech reported by the Iranian news agency Tasnim at the end of last month, Velayati said, “The United States is behind Azerbaijan’s demands for what is called the ‘Zangezur Corridor’,” adding that “the main objective is to sever Iran’s connection to the Caucasus and impose a land blockade on Iran and Russia in the southern region.”
Velayati further stated: “This project is not only part of America’s strategy to shift pressure from Ukraine to the Caucasus but also enjoys support from NATO and some Turkish nationalist movements,” asserting that Iran will thwart this project through “an active prevention policy, rather than a passive reaction.”
