The Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported on Thursday that the Iraqi Ministry of Commerce, represented by Atheer Al-Ghariri, signed five memoranda of understanding with the Lebanese side, headed by Minister of Economy and Trade Amer Al-Bassat.
The memoranda of understanding include:
– A memorandum in the field of developing trade exchanges and export growth.
– A memorandum for cooperation in international and specialized exhibitions.
– A memorandum in the field of land transport.
– A memorandum regarding mutual recognition of maritime competency certificates for seafarers working at sea.
– A memorandum in the field of investment.
In the same context, the Iraqi Ministry of Interior announced last month the success of a joint security operation with Lebanese authorities, resulting in the dismantling of one of the largest captagon manufacturing plants in the Middle East, located in Lebanon’s Bekaa region.
The ministry stated that “Baghdad provided the Lebanese side with precise information, allowing the Lebanese army to conduct a large-scale operation in mid-July, resulting in the seizure of the plant and the thwarting of massive quantities of prepared narcotics.”
The statement added that the General Directorate of State Security in Lebanon sent an official letter to the Iraqi Ministry of Interior, affirming that this cooperation reflects the strength of relations between the two countries and embodies Iraq’s leading role in confronting cross-border threats, especially those posing the greatest threat to Arab societies.
