The German Association for Diagnosis and Functional Therapy, which conducted the study, stated that neck pain may be due to a disorder in the chewing system known as “cranio-mandibular dysfunction.” The association explained that “cranio-mandibular dysfunction” is a comprehensive term for disorders in the interaction of jaw joints, chewing muscles, and teeth, noting that this dysfunction has various causes such as psychological stress and teeth grinding.

In addition to the aforementioned symptoms, the study pointed out the presence of headaches and sometimes ear pain as well.

The study concluded that cranio-mandibular dysfunction can be treated through jaw massage, relaxation exercises, and splints.
