In a televised speech, the Iraqi Prime Minister stated that the Iraqi government has completed all the requirements to ensure the elections are held on time, with full readiness in all provinces, in direct cooperation with the Independent High Electoral Commission.
He added that the government has provided everything needed for the electoral process with high professionalism and national responsibility, noting that these elections come ten years after the last provincial council elections, especially in Kirkuk where the last elections were held in 2005, in addition to the legislative elections in the Kurdistan region, according to Iraqi News Agency (INA).
The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, called on all Iraqis to exercise their right to vote freely, consciously, and responsibly, emphasizing that their votes are a trust and of high value, and that participation in the elections represents choosing the future and shows the world Iraq’s ability to peacefully transfer power through the ballot boxes.
The upcoming parliamentary elections in Iraq are scheduled for November 11th, determining the 329 members of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, who are responsible for electing the President and granting confidence to the government.
This will be the sixth parliamentary election since 2003, taking place in a different atmosphere, especially amid the call from the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, for his supporters to completely boycott the elections, a move that is unprecedented in terms of its potential impact on the Iraqi political landscape.
