The Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported this Wednesday evening from the media office of the Iraqi National Security Advisor that the preemptive workshop for the Fifth International Conference on Geospatial Technologies and Smart Cities was held. This was in execution of the strategic partnership between the National Security Advisory, represented by the National Center for Spatial Data Management, and the Scientific Research Authority / Space Research and Technology Center.
The media office confirmed that during the workshop, international experiences from a group of global space agencies present via teleconference were reviewed to create various research and security purposes.
The office explained in its statement that the workshop witnessed the launch of the Al-Nahrain Center for Geography and Information Systems as a civil society organization concerned with these technologies. This organization was formed with the approval of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, Organizations Department.
The media office noted that the workshop was attended by a number of university presidents, general directors concerned with satellites, and the Iraqi Supreme Space Committee.
The Iraqi Ministry of Communications had announced in April 2021 the agreement to establish Iraq’s first private satellite.
