In a statement, it was noted that the killing of Omar Abdul Qader, a member of ISIS who actively sought to attack America, weakens the terrorist organization’s ability to plan and execute future attacks that threaten Americans and our partners.
The command quoted its leader, Admiral Brad Cooper, saying, “We will not relent in pursuing terrorists who seek to attack America or our forces or allies and partners abroad.”
Cooper added, “I commend the efforts of our skilled fighters and everyone who supported them during the mission.” This follows the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service’s announcement on Friday of the elimination of the terrorist banned in Russia and several other countries in Syria.
Iraqi news (INA) reported on Friday that a statement from the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service claimed success in eliminating Omar Abdul Qader Bassam, known as “Abdul Rahman Al-Halabi,” one of ISIS’s most prominent leaders.
The Iraqi statement clarified that “in implementation of the directives of the General Commander of the Armed Forces, with the support of the Joint Operations Command and under the supervision of the head of the service, we announce the elimination of ‘Abdul Rahman Al-Halabi’ in an operation carried out at dawn on Friday inside Syrian territory in coordination with…”
The Iraqi statement confirmed that the criminal “Al-Halabi” held the position of head of operations and foreign security, bearing responsibility for planning and overseeing the so-called “distant provinces,” in addition to his direct involvement in the bombing of the Iranian embassy in Lebanon, and attempts to carry out other terrorist operations in Europe and the United States, which were thwarted by precise intelligence efforts.
According to the statement, the qualitative operation was the result of precise intelligence tracking and Iraqi judicial support over several months, during which the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service was able to determine the target’s movements and location, allowing the international coalition forces to carry out an airstrike to neutralize him completely.
The strike represents a major strategic loss, as the elimination of “Al-Halabi” comes after a series of successful operations over the past two months, resulting in the killing of more than six senior leaders of the ISIS organization.
The Iraqi statement continued, “The Counter-Terrorism Service pledges to our dear people that we are continuing to protect Iraq and the region from the evils of terrorism, and to pursue the remnants of ISIS wherever they are, until they are completely eradicated and their deviant ideology is dried up.”
