Israel Strikes Gaza Over Ceasefire Breach

In retaliation for an alleged ceasefire violation by Hamas, Israeli forces dropped 153 tonnes (337,307 pounds) of bombs on Gaza, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu informed parliament on Monday.

“We extend one hand for peace while holding a weapon in the other,” Netanyahu addressed the Knesset members. “Peace is achieved with strength, not weakness. Today, Israel is stronger than ever.”

On Sunday, Israel stated it launched airstrikes on Gaza following an attack by Hamas that killed two Israeli soldiers. Hamas denied involvement in the attack.

On Monday, Netanyahu met with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner amid concerns that recent violence could jeopardize the US-brokered ceasefire in Gaza.

“Prime Minister Netanyahu met today with special envoy Steve Witkoff and President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner to discuss regional developments,” said Shosh Bedrosian, the prime minister’s spokeswoman.

She mentioned that US Vice President JD Vance and his wife were expected to visit Israel “for a few days to meet with the prime minister.”

Later, Netanyahu confirmed the visit would start on Tuesday.

Netanyahu informed the Israeli parliament that “tomorrow, Vice President JD Vance will arrive… to discuss security challenges and diplomatic opportunities.”

“We will overcome challenges and seize opportunities,” he stated.

On Sunday, Vance urged Gulf Arab states to create a “security infrastructure” to disarm Hamas, a crucial element of Trump’s Gaza deal.
