The Broadcasting Authority said on Sunday: “Minister Dermer is expected to meet this week with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shibani.” No specific date or location for the anticipated meeting was provided. Dermer and Al-Shibani have previously met several times to pave the way for a security agreement between Israel and Syria.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel is closely monitoring developments in Syria and will do whatever is necessary to protect its borders. The Syrian official news agency (SANA) reported that discussions focused on halting intervention in Syria’s internal affairs, enhancing stability in southern Syria, monitoring the ceasefire in the Suwayda province, and reactivating the 1974 disengagement agreement, which stipulates the cessation of hostilities between Syria and Israel under UN supervision.
Two informed sources confirmed to “Axios” the occurrence of a meeting between Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, who is close to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with the Syrian Foreign Minister and the American envoy to Syria, Tom Barrack. This meeting is considered a continuation of a similar meeting at the end of July between Al-Shibani and Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, at a time when diplomatic sources talked about other direct meetings held between the parties in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku.
