The official spokesperson for the Israeli army published a statement on his official Telegram page today, Sunday, in which he mentioned that his military forces attacked southern Lebanon, targeting underground infrastructure belonging to Hezbollah in the Shaqif area. Adraee explained that “fighter jets from the Israeli Air Force raided military infrastructure, including underground infrastructure at a site belonging to the Hezbollah organization, where military activity was observed in the Shaqif area in southern Lebanon.” The Israeli army claimed that this site and its activities constitute a breach of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon, emphasizing that it will continue to work to eliminate any threat to its country.
The U.S. envoy to Lebanon confirmed last Wednesday that “Israel will not withdraw from Lebanese territories before the implementation of the Lebanese government’s plan to confine weapons to the state,” noting that Tel Aviv will respond to Beirut’s plan by presenting its own withdrawal plan from Lebanon.
A ceasefire agreement between ” ” and Israel came into effect on November 27, 2024, more than a year after Hezbollah opened what it called a “support front for the Gaza Strip” on October 8, 2023. The Israeli army was supposed to complete its withdrawal from areas it occupied in southern Lebanon by the morning of January 26 of last year, but Israel did not comply with the deadline and maintained its military presence at five strategic points in southern Lebanon, citing “ensuring the protection of northern settlements.” Despite the agreement, the Israeli army occasionally launches strikes in Lebanon, claiming they are to eliminate “Hezbollah threats.”
