Jannik Sinner has pulled out of the US Open mixed doubles, where he was set to team up with Katerina Siniakova, just a day after illness led him to withdraw five games into the Cincinnati Open final.

Sinner, the current champion of the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and US Open, appeared uncomfortable in the intense heat on Monday in Cincinnati, retiring after trailing 5-0 to Carlos Alcaraz in the first set.

“Yesterday wasn’t great for me, and I’m sorry to let you down. Thank you so much to everyone who supports me both on-site and from home; your support means everything,” world number one Sinner shared on X on Tuesday.

“Congrats to @carlosalcaraz and his team; you’re having an amazing season, and I wish you the best for the future. Now I need a couple of days’ rest before returning to work.”

The revamped mixed doubles tournament, a two-day event with 16 teams, started on Tuesday, but the official draw no longer included the Sinner-Siniakova pairing.

Danielle Collins and Christian Harrison have taken the place of Sinner and Siniakova in the draw and will face Belinda Bencic and Alexander Zverev in the first round.

The main singles draw at the US Open is set to commence on Sunday.
