Just two days after his father’s passing, Sri Lankan all-rounder Dunith Wellalage returned to the squad for the Asia Cup Super Four clash against Bangladesh in Dubai on Saturday.

Wellalage’s father, Suranga, died on Thursday.

In tribute, players from both Sri Lanka and Bangladesh observed a minute’s silence before the game on Saturday for Wellalage’s father.

The 22-year-old was notified of his father’s death following Sri Lanka’s six-wicket victory over Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi on Thursday, which secured their spot in the Super Four.

Wellalage traveled back to Sri Lanka to be with his family but came back to rejoin the team for Saturday’s game.

The left-arm spinner has appeared in 37 matches for his country across all formats.
