The duo will star in a new prequel titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Lawrence and Hutcherson, who originally brought Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark to life in Lionsgate’s Hunger Games films, are set to reprise their iconic roles.

The much-anticipated film is scheduled for a theatrical release on November 20, 2026.

Based on Suzanne Collins’ latest novel, the prequel explores the 50th Hunger Games, occurring 24 years before Katniss and Peeta’s deadly debut alongside mentor Haymitch Abernathy, according to Variety.

This story highlights Haymitch’s initial games experience at age 16. Joseph Zada will take the role of young Haymitch, originally portrayed by Woody Harrelson in the series.

Directed by Francis Lawrence, the adaptation also stars Ralph Fiennes as President Snow, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee Latier, Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, and Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket.

The cast also includes Joseph Zada, Glenn Close, McKenna Grace, Maya Hawke, and Whitney Peak in significant roles.
