They used hammers and other tools to smash display cases and steal jewelry, then shot their way out when a security door tried to close automatically inside. Police said the attack was likely planned days in advance, as the suspects arrived in six separate vehicles and parked them 100 feet from the store entrance. Police Chief Denton Carlson told the Danville San Ramon newspaper that officers focused on chasing one car “at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour.” However, a specialized drone captured much of the evidence. Police have since arrested seven suspects, including a minor, in two separate raids in Oakland and nearby Dublin, California. Police said the suspects, all from Oakland, are aged between 17 and 31 and are suspected of involvement in similar crimes. Two firearms and some stolen jewelry, believed to have been dropped or disposed of during the escape, were recovered, while numerous vehicles used in the robbery were reported stolen, according to police. The store itself was similarly attacked in March 2023, when seven masked thieves broke in and stole about $1.1 million in watches and necklaces. The suspects were later arrested after a GPS tracker hidden inside a stolen Rolex watch was found.
