Jimmy Kimmel, the US late-night host, has renewed his contract with ABC for another year, extending his presence on the network until May 2027, as reported by a source to Reuters.
After a brief suspension in September over controversial comments on Jimmy Kimmel Live! regarding conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s assassination, which Disney deemed “insensitive,” Kimmel returned to ABC’s late-night lineup.
The contract extension with Disney was settled months ago, but the announcement was postponed to honor fellow late-night host Stephen Colbert, according to Bloomberg News, which first reported the story. Kimmel’s existing contract is set to expire in May of next year.
Meanwhile, Colbert’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will conclude its decade-long tenure on CBS, owned by Paramount Skydance, in May 2026.
Disney temporarily removed Kimmel’s show after FCC Chairman Brendan Carr accused him of misleading viewers about the affiliation of Kirk’s alleged shooter with Trump’s Make America Great Again movement.
Carr is scheduled to testify before the Senate Commerce Committee on December 17, following bipartisan criticism for his actions against Kimmel.
