Kirsten Dunst appears eager for a fresh cinematic journey that her children will adore and, importantly, won’t “lose money.”

Following A Minecraft Movie‘s tremendous success at the box office earlier this year, the Oscar-nominated actress expressed her interest in joining its sequel, as reported by Deadline.

Dunst mentioned that her kids loved the film and that she’s keen on a project that’s both entertaining and financially rewarding. She subtly hinted at wanting a role that wouldn’t negatively impact her career.

“Maybe I can just make a movie where I don’t lose money?” Dunst remarked.

Director Jared Hess, who directed the initial Minecraft movie, is already enthusiastic about a sequel. He commented that creating another installment “would be so much fun,” highlighting that the first film only began to explore the game’s expansive universe.

“We had a blast making this movie, and it’s such a vast world in the game with so much left to explore,” Hess said.

“I’d be thrilled to work on the sequel, and it looks like it’s already being discussed, so I’m very excited. Revisiting that world would be amazing. The fans are having a great time. We teased it in the end credits, and the fans seem thrilled,” he added.

The original movie’s end credits hinted at introducing another key game character, Alex. Although Kate McKinnon voiced Alex in the scene, the character’s face was concealed, sparking curiosity about who might portray Alex in a sequel. Fans speculate if Dunst could take on the role.

Dunst’s recent film, Civil War (2024), directed by Alex Garland, grossed over $127 million globally, becoming A24’s largest opening ever. Her top-grossing film remains Spider-Man 3 (2007), with worldwide earnings of $892 million.
