The Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported on Tuesday evening that Kushner requested Israel to release 200 members of the Palestinian Hamas movement trapped in Rafah, southern Gaza Strip, during his visit to Tel Aviv. It stated that these 200 individuals are in the tunnels in Rafah without weapons, aiming to continue efforts to disarm the sector. However, Israel opposed the request. The Israeli Broadcasting Authority described on its website that rejecting Kushner’s request increases disagreements between Tel Aviv and the American administration.
Earlier on Tuesday, Israeli media reported, citing a ‘cabinet’ official, that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reached an agreement with Jared Kushner regarding the 200 members of the Palestinian Hamas movement trapped in Rafah, southern Gaza Strip.
It is noteworthy that US President Donald announced on October 9th that Israel and Hamas reached an agreement to implement the first phase of the peace plan, which aims to end the ongoing armed conflict in the Gaza Strip for two years. Under the agreement, 20 hostages, held since October 7, 2023, were released, while Israel released 1,718 prisoners from the Gaza Strip who returned home, in addition to 250 Palestinian prisoners with life or long-term sentences who were transferred to other Palestinian territories or deported.
