A correspondent reported today, Friday, that the Lebanese army received a new batch of weapons from the Palestinian Liberation Organization factions at the ‘Burj al-Barajneh’ and ‘Shatila’ camps in Beirut. It was noted that two loaded trucks were seen leaving the ‘Burj al-Barajneh’ camp, and the Lebanese army withdrew from the camp entrance.

The operation to collect weapons from the two camps began this Friday morning, and it is limited to the Palestinian Fatah movement, under the supervision of the Palestinian National Security. On Thursday, the Lebanese army published a statement on its official ‘X’ platform account, stating that it had received a quantity of Palestinian weapons in the South Litani area, covering the Rashidieh, al-Buss, and Burj al-Shamali camps, in coordination with the relevant Palestinian authorities.

The statement noted that the handover process included various types of weapons, shells, and diverse military ammunition. It is worth mentioning that the handover operation comes as an implementation of the resolutions of the Lebanese-Palestinian summit that took place on May 21, between Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and his Palestinian counterpart Mahmoud Abbas, which affirmed Lebanon’s sovereignty over its entire territory, the extension of state authority, and the application of the principle of ‘exclusive weapons’.
