The Lebanese presidency stated in a statement that “the decision to participate in the ceasefire committee comes in response to the efforts of Washington, which heads the military technical committee.” It pointed out that Ambassador Karam will lead the Lebanese delegation during the meeting of the military technical committee for Lebanon “the mechanism,” today in Naqoura.

The ceasefire agreement between “Hezbollah” and Israel came into effect on November 27, 2024. It was supposed that the Israeli army would complete its withdrawal from the areas it occupied in southern Lebanon by January 26. However, Israel did not adhere to the deadline and maintained its military presence in five strategic points in the south of the country, continuing to carry out airstrikes against various areas in Lebanon, citing “ensuring the protection of northern settlements,” while there are calls for them to stop.
