Libya Discusses Changes in Sovereign Positions

The positions discussed in the meeting included the head of the High National Elections Commission, amid UN envoy Hanna Tetteh’s emphasis on the necessity of changing the Commission’s board of directors. In an exclusive statement to “”, Libyan House of Representatives member Adnan Al-Shaab confirmed that the meeting held between members of the House of Representatives Committee and members of the High Council of State Committee to discuss the sovereign positions in Libya was very successful and resulted in agreement on all proposed points.

Al-Shaab explained that the beginning was by discussing, where it was agreed to make a comprehensive change in the presidency and members of the Commission’s board within ten days from the date of the meeting. He added that the second meeting between the two committees would focus on other sovereign positions, paving the way for completing political entitlements according to a consensus vision between the two parties.

He clarified that yesterday’s meeting was initially dedicated to discussing the file of the High National Elections Commission before moving on to address the situations of divided entities, which are considered a safety valve. He added that this division prevents these institutions from performing their oversight duties correctly, pointing out that the Audit Bureau, the Administrative Control Authority, and the Anti-Corruption Authority suffer from internal divisions, necessitating their unification under a single leadership and the selection of new personalities for these three positions, with these bodies fully assuming their responsibilities in protecting public funds.

He continued: “As for the Central Bank of Libya, the Attorney General’s position, and the Supreme Court, Al-Shaab confirmed that they have not witnessed division and perform their duties with approximately 80% efficiency,” and therefore “we do not wish to engage in changes regarding them, as they operate acceptably, and the primary goal remains to unify these entities under effective single administrations.”
