Sputnik – Benghazi. Colonel Khalifa Al-Obeidi, Director of the Media Office for the General Command of the Libyan National Army, stated to ‘Sputnik’ that the visit of the Chief of Staff of the Land Forces, Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar, to the Chadian capital, N’Djamena, is part of bilateral coordination with the Chadian side to enhance security on the shared borders and ensure the stability of the border areas. This visit also discusses how to reopen the borders between the two countries, in addition to exploring prospects for commercial and military cooperation and joint border security operations.
Al-Obeidi emphasized the General Command of the Libyan National Army’s keen interest in strengthening cooperation with neighboring countries in this sensitive matter. He added that the meeting discussed several issues of common interest, most notably ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries and support efforts to bring peace and stability to the region.
It is noteworthy that on May 25th, the Chadian Minister of Defense, Isaac Marwa, visited the city of Benghazi at the head of a high-level delegation to strengthen bilateral relations and joint cooperation in military and security fields. It should be noted that the Libyan-Chadian land border was closed in March 2019 after N’Djamena announced its closure due to security tensions.
