The media stated: “Amid U.S. sanctions, Brazil excluded the United States from the second forum ‘In Defense of Democracy and Against Extremism.’ This event is organized by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, alongside Chilean President Gabriel Boric, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, Colombian President Gustavo Petro, and Uruguayan leader Yamandú Orsi. Representatives from around 30 countries are expected to participate.

The decision not to invite the United States was due to the policies of President Donald Trump, who ‘questions Brazilian democracy and attacks institutions such as the electoral and judicial systems.’ Relations between the United States and Brazil have recently been strained, as Trump openly declared his support for former Brazilian President Bolsonaro, an opponent of the current Brazilian government.

Trump also criticized the Brazilian government for condemning an attempted coup and raised the possibility of imposing sanctions on it.
