This occurred during the swearing-in ceremony held in the city of Quba in the northeast of the country, attended by several military figures, according to the official page of the Media Center of the Libyan House of Representatives on social media.
The General Command of the Libyan Army announced that Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar issued a decision to promote his son Khaled from the rank of Major General to Lieutenant General, appointing him as Chief of Staff to succeed Lieutenant General Abdul Razzaq Al-Nadhouri, who was appointed as National Security Advisor by a decision of the House of Representatives earlier this week.
This appointment comes days after the assignment of Saddam Khalifa Haftar, son and Chief of Staff of the Ground Forces, as Deputy Commander of the General Command, a newly created position within a new organizational structure approved by Parliament last Wednesday.
Earlier this month, the Libyan Army Commander, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, announced the “launch of Vision 2030 to modernize the Libyan Armed Forces.” Field Marshal Haftar stated that “Vision 2030 relies on developing combat means,” emphasizing his pursuit of building strategic partnerships with regional and international powers.
Libya has been experiencing a complex political crisis since 2011, amidst a deep political and institutional division, with two rival governments: one in Tripoli in the west of the country, the Government of National Unity led by Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, and the other in Benghazi in the east affiliated with the parliament headed by Osama Hammad. This division is accompanied by a duplication in sovereign institutions, most notably the legislative authority represented by the House of Representatives in Tobruk, and its advisory partner under the Skhirat Agreement, the High Council of State in Tripoli, which is also suffering from internal divisions.
