Liverpool, the Premier League champion, has reached a historic deal to sign Swedish striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle for an unprecedented amount, according to British media reports. Isak is expected to move to Liverpool in a deal worth 130 million pounds (176 million dollars). The British media indicated that Isak will undergo medical examinations on Monday before signing a six-year contract.
This deal will be the largest in Premier League history, surpassing the transfer of Argentine player Enzo Fernandez from Portuguese club Benfica to Chelsea for 106 million pounds, according to reports. Isak, who is 25 years old, scored 23 goals in the league last season, ranking second among top scorers behind Liverpool’s Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah. His contribution helped Newcastle qualify for the Champions League.
Additionally, the transfer of goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to Manchester City has been finalized after the English club agreed to pay 35 million euros (41 million dollars) to French club Paris Saint-Germain. Luis Enrique, PSG’s coach, ended Donnarumma’s stint with the team after indicating he was not needed for the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham and in the early stages of the French league. He expressed his desire for a different type of goalkeeper.
Donnarumma played a crucial role in PSG’s treble last season, winning the league, cup, and Super Cup, and he also contributed to the club’s first European title win. Additionally, he reached the Club World Cup final against Chelsea.
