The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced earlier that Netanyahu will visit the Western Wall accompanied by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is visiting Israel. On Sunday, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in Tel Aviv for a visit during which he will discuss the Gaza issue and reaffirm his country’s support for Israel. Prior to his departure for Israel, Rubio reiterated his country’s support for Israel despite criticism from U.S. President Donald Trump over strikes on Qatar, as well as criticism from regional and international parties.
According to the Axios portal, Rubio is scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday and Monday to discuss Israel’s potential annexation of parts of the West Bank. This comes in response to plans announced by several Western countries to recognize the State of Palestine later in September. It was noted that “Rubio hinted during closed meetings with the Israeli side that he does not oppose the annexation and that the White House will not stand in Israel’s way.”
He continued, “Israeli claims of a lack of opposition to the annexation plan have raised concerns within the Trump administration, which sees it as pressure to corner them.”
