Liverpool’s star, Mohamed Salah, risks tarnishing his legacy at the club due to his intense reaction after being benched, according to Wayne Rooney, the former Manchester United forward.

Salah hasn’t started the last three games and expressed frustration towards the club and coach Arne Slot after a 3-3 draw with Leeds United, claiming he was unfairly blamed for the team’s slow season start.

The Egyptian, who extended his contract for two years in April, has been a pivotal figure during his eight years at Liverpool, winning two Premier League titles and scoring 250 goals across all competitions.

This season, however, he has netted only five goals in 19 appearances.

“He’s risking his Liverpool legacy,” Rooney commented on his podcast. “It’s disappointing to see him jeopardize everything. His approach is misguided.

“Arne Slot needs to assert control and tell Salah, ‘you’re not traveling with the team; your comments are out of line.’

“He should take a break and participate in the Africa Cup of Nations to let things settle. If I were in charge, he wouldn’t be playing right now.”

Salah felt “thrown under the bus” as Liverpool struggled to match last season’s championship form.

The team is currently ninth, trailing leaders Arsenal by 10 points after 15 matches.

“In reality, he’s the one throwing Liverpool under the bus with his remarks,” Rooney added. “He’ll likely regret these comments in the years to come.”
