Mohamed Salah’s Future at Liverpool Uncertain

Liverpool’s forward Mohamed Salah was absent from Tuesday’s Champions League match against Inter Milan due to his reaction to being excluded, as explained by teammate Alisson Becker on Monday. Salah, 33, was not part of the 19-man squad after expressing in a candid interview post-Leeds United match that he felt “betrayed” by the club.

“Salah’s absence is a direct result of his actions, and he understands that. I haven’t discussed it with Mo,” the Brazilian goalkeeper shared with reporters.

“We enjoy good and joyful moments together, which strengthens our bond. We’ll discuss it privately.” Salah, who has netted 250 goals and secured two Premier League titles and a Champions League over eight years with Liverpool, was benched during last month’s 2-0 victory over West Ham United. He substituted in during the 1-1 home draw with Sunderland but was unused against Leeds.

Before the Inter match, Liverpool manager Arne Slot admitted uncertainty about Salah’s future at the club, while Becker hoped for the Egyptian’s return.

“I wish he plays for us again. It’s a personal matter between Mo and the club,” he said.

“As teammates and friends, we wish for the best outcome for him, but as Liverpool players, we also aim for the club’s best interest. We seek a win-win for all.”

Salah, with five goals in 19 appearances across all competitions this season, expressed feeling blamed for the club’s poor start.

The club is currently 10th, trailing leaders Arsenal by 10 points after 15 games.
