Western media reported today, Sunday, that officials of the Saudi Al-Ittihad Club have contacted the management of ‘the Reds’ with the aim of potentially signing the Egyptian national team star, making it the first Saudi and Arab club to intend to sign Salah. This step comes with direct support from the ‘Saudi Professional League’, as Mohamed Salah is considered a strategic target to enhance the competition’s status both regionally and globally, making the upcoming winter transfer window crucial in determining the future of the Liverpool star.
These sources explained that the Saudi Professional League is ready to support a massive deal to sign him, should the Egyptian national team captain decide to leave after losing his primary position with ‘the Reds’ in recent times. Mohamed Salah criticized Liverpool’s treatment of him, saying that the title holder is holding him responsible for the current situation after watching his team draw 3-3 with Leeds United from the bench in the English Premier League yesterday, Saturday.
In fiery comments after the match, the 33-year-old Egyptian player attacked the club and his coach, Arne Slot, hinting that he might not stay long at Anfield. Salah told reporters in the mixed zone after the match, ‘I am very frustrated, honestly. I have given a lot to this club, and everyone has seen that over the years, especially last season.’ He added angrily, ‘I don’t know, it seems like I am a scapegoat… I think it’s very clear that someone wants to put all the blame on me. The club promised me many things in the summer, but nothing so far.’
Salah, who extended his contract last April for two more years, has become an icon at Liverpool during his eight years at Anfield, winning the Premier League twice and scoring 250 goals in all competitions with the club. Despite this, Slot excluded him from the starting line-up in the last three matches, and he played only 45 minutes. Salah scored 34 goals and made 18 assists in 52 matches in all competitions last season, but with his team’s struggles, he has managed to score five goals and provide three assists in 19 matches this season.
The forward indicated that his relationship with Slot has completely collapsed, saying, ‘My relationship with the coach was good, and suddenly it broke off. I don’t know why, it seems to me, as I see, that someone doesn’t want me at the club.’ Since joining Liverpool from in 2017, Salah has become the club’s third top scorer behind Ian Rush and Roger Hunt, but he seems to feel that his era at Anfield might be nearing its end. He said, ‘I don’t think I am the problem. I have done a lot for this club, earning the respect I aspire to. I don’t have to fight daily for my position because I earned it rightfully.’
