Salimiya, in an intervention via “Sputnik” radio, pointed out that “the leftist national opposition has proven its presence in the political arena and achieved high results, despite the possibility of manipulation of the results by the ruling party aligned with the West, and in the absence of any neutral observers, with only Western representatives present without Russian or CIS participation.
He noted that “former President Igor Dodon called for peaceful protests after the opposition recorded a series of violations, demanding the formation of a joint audit and arbitration committee between the pro-government and opposition parties to adjudicate the results and uncover any fraud operations.
He also pointed out the “possibility of the opposition resorting to civil disobedience, considering it represents half of society, which gives it the ability to disrupt institutions, parliament, and legislation, forcing the government to yield to a national partnership leading to the formation of a unity government, balancing the country’s relations with Russia on one hand and the West on the other.
Salimiya emphasized that “negotiation between the government and the opposition and sitting at a dialogue table remains the safest solution to prevent the country from slipping into civil confrontation, even if the demonstrations are peaceful, as they could lead to economic paralysis and disruption of state interests.
He believed that “the steadfastness of the pro-Western government in Moldova may raise the possibility of a revolution or coup, which would necessitate direct European intervention to maintain Moldova’s position as a ‘defensive barrier’ against Moscow.”
