Monkey Tosses Cash, Surprises Indian Town

Residents of a quiet northern Indian town were astonished when a monkey sitting atop a sacred fig tree started tossing Rs 500 notes into the air, transforming an ordinary afternoon into a frenzied dash for cash.

This unusual event occurred on Monday outside the local administrative office in Soraon, a subdivision of Prayagraj district in Uttar Pradesh.

According to witnesses, the monkey grabbed a cash-filled bag from a parked motorcycle belonging to a man who was there to register land documents. The bag, full of 500-rupee bills, was stored in the bike’s compartment.

“The man was nearby when the monkey swooped in, opened the storage compartment, and fled with the bag,” a bystander mentioned in local reports. “As people shouted and threw stones to scare it away, the monkey simply climbed the peepal tree and started raining money from above.”

Videos of the “cash rain” have become viral on social media, capturing onlookers joyfully collecting notes as they fluttered down from the branches.

In an unexpected turn, many locals who gathered the money later returned it to the owner, sparing him a significant financial loss. The man, who chose to remain anonymous, reportedly felt relieved after recovering most of the money.

While monkey antics are common in India, ranging from temple invasions to rooftop thefts, this incident was a literal money shower.
