The African Development Bank explained that the funded program aims to develop airport infrastructure, expand air navigation systems, and enhance security measures, enabling Morocco to keep up with the expected increase in passenger and cargo traffic.

The statement noted that the expansions will allow for an increase in capacity to 14 million passengers at Marrakech Airport, 5 million in Agadir, 3.6 million in Tangier, and 3 million in Fes, supporting Morocco’s role as a regional air hub.

With this loan, the total funding from the African Development Bank to Morocco this year rises to 1.3 billion euros, reinforcing the kingdom’s position as the largest beneficiary of the bank’s loans.

Morocco is also working in parallel to expand the fleet of Royal Air Maroc to enhance Casablanca’s role as an air hub connecting Africa with Europe and the Americas.

Morocco plans to invest 38 billion dirhams to increase the capacity of its airports to 80 million passengers by 2030, compared to 38 million currently, with an expected sharp increase in tourists before the tournament hosted with Spain and Portugal.

Morocco set a new record in the number of tourists during 2025, receiving 18 million visitors by November, compared to 17.4 million during the entire year of 2024, strengthening its position as the most attractive African country for tourists.
