The company stated in a message to stakeholders: “The Mozal Aluminum Plant, located outside the city of Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, will not be able to continue operating under the current tariff, which will be replaced at the beginning of next year,” according to Western media. According to the media, the plant, which employs 2,500 workers and generated $1.1 billion last year, could close if a solution is not reached, threatening to increase unemployment rates in a country already suffering from a job crisis.

Mozambique, a country located in southeastern Africa, possesses immense natural resources including natural gas, oil, uranium, gold, coal, and other resources. In recent years, the country has made significant progress in attracting foreign investment, especially in the energy sector.
