Mubadala Investment Company, a global investor from Abu Dhabi, and Glenwood Private Equity, a top investment firm in Korea, along with other co-investors, have announced the completion of their co-investment in NanoH2O Co. Ltd, formerly LG Water Solutions, a division of LG Chem, Ltd. All necessary conditions and regulatory approvals have been successfully met.

Founded as a division of LG Chem in 2014, NanoH2O became an independent entity this year. Based in Seoul, Korea, the company is a leading global supplier of reverse osmosis membranes used for desalination and brackish water treatment. This method is recognized as the most energy-efficient for large-scale desalination compared to thermal processes. With over 95% of its revenue coming from outside Korea, NanoH2O serves a broad spectrum of municipal and industrial clients worldwide, addressing the increasing global need for clean water.

“Our investment in NanoH2O underscores Glenwood’s commitment to identifying and partnering with high-quality businesses considered non-core within their conglomerates through corporate carve-outs,” stated Sangho Lee, CEO of Glenwood PE. “We are dedicated to supporting NanoH2O in advancing sustainable water solutions and accelerating its growth and global impact alongside our investment partners, including Mubadala.”

Mohamed Albadr, Head of Asia at Mubadala, commented: “We are confident in NanoH2O’s technological leadership and long-term growth potential. This investment aligns with our strategy to partner with companies providing solutions to global challenges and reinforces our commitment to South Korea and the wider Asian market. Together with Glenwood PE, we aim to support NanoH2O’s international growth and solidify its status as a global leader.”

Abdulla Mohamed Shadid, Head of Energy and Sustainability at Mubadala, added: “Water security and decarbonization are emerging as global priorities, and reverse osmosis membranes are key to delivering water efficiently on a large scale. NanoH2O excels with its proven technology, global reach, and a business model driven by innovation. Our investment will help NanoH2O meet increasing demand in the Mena region and other critical markets worldwide, contributing to the company’s expansion and sustainable value creation over the long term.”
