Netanyahu’s Health and Trial Update

The Israeli Channel 12 reported on Wednesday evening that Netanyahu is suffering from bronchitis, known for his allergy issues, which poses no danger to him or those around him. The channel quoted Netanyahu’s office stating that, based on the recommendation of his personal doctor, Berkovitch, the Prime Minister canceled his schedule for the rest of the day and is now resting at home.

The channel explained on its website that “Netanyahu was also heard last week and in his last speech in the Knesset on Friday suffering from nasal congestion.” Meanwhile, Israeli Army Radio reported that Netanyahu is suffering from a respiratory infection or nasal congestion, leading to the cancellation of his schedule on Wednesday.

Israeli Justice Minister Yariv Levin stated that he would work on proposing a law to halt and postpone Netanyahu’s trial, noting that the prosecution should not have occurred today, considering this step against justice and the state’s interest. It should be noted that Netanyahu appeared before the Tel Aviv District Court on Wednesday to testify in his corruption trial after a month-long hiatus.

The trial of the Israeli Prime Minister had been on hold for several weeks due to the Gaza Strip conflict, the war on Iran, and his visit to Washington. Netanyahu finished giving his testimony in three cases involving corruption and breach of trust, and in the last sessions, the prosecution moved to the cross-examination phase, questioning him about the content of his testimony and the data provided during his forty-session testimony.

Since December 2016, Netanyahu has been under several criminal investigations in Israel for charges of corruption and exerting illegal pressures to achieve his personal and governmental interests. The trial began in May 2020.
