The study, published in the journal Cell Metabolism, revealed the important role of a molecule known as D-lactate, which is produced by the gut, according to the Times of India website.
To address this issue, scientists have developed a new treatment called the “intestinal substrate trap,” a technique aimed at capturing D-lactate before it enters the bloodstream, thereby protecting and enhancing metabolism.
This discovery is a potential breakthrough in understanding the relationship between gut microbes and metabolic health, focusing on addressing the root causes of diabetes rather than merely controlling its symptoms.
If successful, this treatment could become a complementary option to current therapies or even reduce patients’ reliance on insulin, offering new hope to millions of sufferers worldwide.
