Niger Nationalizes Company Over Breaches

The General Secretariat of the Government stated that the decision was issued on Friday, and that the company had been sold in 2019 with 80% of it going to an Australian company in exchange for its commitment to rehabilitate and develop the project and inject significant investments.

The statement added that after six years, the government revealed the company’s failure to meet its commitments, leading to a concerning economic situation within the “Liptako Mines,” according to “Channelstv.”

It was noted that the company had accumulated large tax debts, delayed worker salaries, lacked health and life insurance for employees, and failed to pay contributions to the National Social Security Fund.

The breaches also included the disruption of site supplies, prompting the authorities in Niger to take the step of nationalization to protect the interests of the state and workers.
