The new report mentioned that the Sultanate of Oman has taken a significant step in its energy transition journey by signing an agreement to develop the first utility-scale solar power plant equipped with a battery storage system as part of the third phase of the Ibri Solar Project in Al Dhahirah Governorate. According to the report by the specialized energy platform (based in Washington), the agreement was signed today, Monday, September 22, 2025, between Nama Power and Water Procurement Company and a consortium led by the UAE’s Masdar.
The project represents a strategic addition to Oman’s journey, aiming to produce clean electricity with a capacity of up to 500 megawatts, with a storage system capacity of 100 megawatt-hours, covering the needs of about 33,000 homes. The project is considered an achievement that aligns with the goals of Oman’s Vision 2040 to reach carbon neutrality by 2050, while boosting investor confidence in the national environment and establishing the country’s position as a regional center.
Al-Aufi emphasized that the project will reduce carbon emissions by approximately 505,000 tons annually, enhancing Oman’s efforts in combating climate change and positioning it prominently in the region. The project confirms that Oman is moving steadily towards the future by investing in innovative technological solutions that contribute to enhancing economic and social competitiveness and achieving long-term sustainable development goals.
