Rubio stated in a statement: “US President Donald Trump has made it unequivocally clear that diplomacy remains an option, as the agreement remains the best solution for the Iranian people and the entire world.”
He added: “To achieve this, Iran must agree to direct negotiations conducted in good faith, without delay or evasion. In the absence of such an agreement, partners should activate the ‘snapback’ mechanism to immediately reimpose sanctions, to increase pressure on the Iranian leadership.”
Britain, France, and Germany informed the United Nations Security Council today, Sunday, about the sanctions, which were lifted under the nuclear agreement concluded in 2015. The sanctions, imposed two months after the Israeli and American bombing of Iran, prohibit any dealings related to its nuclear and ballistic missile program, but they are likely to have a broader effect on an economy facing increasing difficulties.
