Energy announced this Tuesday evening that the deal is part of Oman’s approach to building a sustainable national economy in the renewable energy sector. This is achieved by deepening local manufacturing and reducing reliance on imported equipment, while creating the necessary environment to support the growing green hydrogen projects in the country.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the CEO of the engineering services company in the hydrogen sector, Salem Al-Harthi, and the President of Africa, the Middle East, and Asia region, Executive Director of Accounts at China’s Sungrow, Xiaoyi Duan.
Salem Al-Harthi stated that “this partnership represents a strategic step towards diversifying our business in the renewable energy sectors and contributes to establishing the Sultanate of Oman as a regional hub.”
Manufacturing in the Sultanate of Oman is undertaken by a Chinese-Omani alliance, where the engineering services company in the hydrogen sector signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Chinese company “Sungrow.” According to the memorandum, a plant for assembling and manufacturing green hydrogen equipment is to be established in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm.
The plant is a key component in the supply chain for the green ammonia production project being developed by Hyport Duqm, with an expected production capacity of 300 tons of ammonia per day, relying on wind energy. The plant is expected to provide electrolyzers locally instead of importing them, enhancing the project’s independence and increasing its technical and economic efficiency, while reducing the time for executing upcoming projects.
