Emirates advises travelers to plan ahead for expected crowds and traffic at Dubai International Airport (DXB) this December. With peak tourist season, school holidays, and numerous local events, the airline anticipates over 2.3 million departures and 2.5 million arrivals this month.
Passengers should anticipate busy parking areas, increased airport traffic, and lively terminals during the festive period. To avoid delays, it’s recommended that travelers arrive three hours before their flight, clear immigration one and a half hours prior, and be at the boarding gate an hour before departure.
Due to recent regulation updates, it’s crucial for passengers to ensure their luggage complies with Emirates’ rules, including restrictions on power banks, smart bags, and e-cigarettes. Power banks under 100Wh must be in carry-on luggage, while smart bags should have removable batteries and be powered off.

Emirates suggests checking in online via their app or website 48 hours before departure for a smoother experience. The app provides access to digital boarding passes, biometric registration, meal selection, and in-flight entertainment planning.

Travelers can bypass airport queues using Emirates City Check-In at DIFC or the 24-hour Ajman location, available from 24 hours to 4 hours before their flight, for early luggage drop-off. Those checking in at DIFC between December 15 and January 15 will earn 2,500 Emirates Skywards Miles each, allowing a family of four to collect 10,000 miles. Free parking is offered, with extended hours until midnight during peak times.
For added convenience, passengers can drop off luggage at the airport the night before their flight at no extra charge. Travelers departing from Dubai can check in early and drop off bags 24 hours before departure, or 12 hours if flying to the US. Closer to departure, they can proceed directly to Immigration.
Emirates provides a ‘home check-in service’ in Dubai and Sharjah, where agents complete check-in and collect luggage from the passenger’s home, hotel, or office, allowing travelers to arrive at the airport with just hand luggage. This service must be booked at least 24 hours in advance and is complimentary for First Class passengers and Platinum Skywards members.
