Increasing Interest in Psychology and Medicine

Pooja Sanjay Mahat, Senior Admission Officer at Curtin University Dubai, notes a surge in interest for psychology and mechanical engineering, alongside traditional programs like BBA, BCom, accounting, and marketing.

“Students are increasingly inquiring about psychology, a field that was relatively unknown among students just a few years ago. We’ve seen a dramatic rise in awareness over the past two to three years. Our university actively promotes understanding of psychology’s importance through various events. We recently held an event on Alzheimer’s and Dementia, educating students and parents on the condition and its detection,” she said.

The university also provides students with access to a career portal, offering continuous job opportunities and partnerships with multinational companies.

Shraya Thumya, a Year 11 student from The Indian Academy Dubai, expressed her aspiration to pursue medicine, inspired by her doctor grandfather. She mentioned, “I dream of studying at GMU in the UAE or possibly in Georgia.”

Meanwhile, students attending the fair are already benefiting from the exposure. Hadyah Dhamma shared that the expo helped her refine her academic focus.

“Initially, I was torn between interior design and psychology, but I found psychology programs at institutions like Middlesex University and Curtin University Dubai very appealing.”

Flexible Study Options for Students

Apurva Singh, Student Enrollment Counsellor at RIT Dubai, has observed a growing preference among students for computing, cybersecurity, and IT, reflecting global business trends.

“The current demand for programs is significantly influenced by geopolitical shifts where business sectors are expanding. We’ve also received numerous inquiries about design programs, including engineering.”

Universities offer students the flexibility to study across international campuses.

“RIT has a parent campus in the US, with others in Croatia, Kosovo, and the UAE (Dubai). Students can start at any campus and transfer to another for a year while retaining the same tuition fees as Dubai, providing a global educational perspective,” Singh explained.

For students with defined career goals, the expo provided clear guidance. Sixteen-year-old UAE national Abdulat Ariq, from Dubai National School, Al Barsha, aims to become an aeronautical engineer and attend Emirates Aviation University.
