The Robert Koch Institute for Infectious Diseases reported on Wednesday the confirmation of a positive sample taken in the week beginning October 6. This discovery reflects the effectiveness of the environmental monitoring system, despite the absence of any reports of clinical infections, according to an American media outlet.
The German Health Ministry stated in a release, “The Robert Koch Institute has not recorded any human infection cases so far, and the risks to public health are very low thanks to high vaccination rates.”
This monitoring comes more than 30 years after the last case of the original virus in Germany, which is seen as a potential setback for global efforts to eradicate the disease. The ministry emphasized the importance of vaccination as the best means of prevention, urging citizens to ensure their and their children’s vaccinations are up-to-date.
