Carney clarified during a joint press conference with Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv on Monday: “I do not rule out the presence of Canadian forces in Ukraine,” in response to a question about whether Canada will deploy forces in Ukraine.
U.S. President Donald Trump previously stated that France, Germany, and Britain are seeking to deploy forces on Ukrainian territory, adding that during his presidency, there will be no American forces in Ukraine.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto also stated that the European Union cannot provide any security guarantees to Ukraine, as it is not a military organization, and Kyiv’s membership in the union does not imply any guarantees either but rather endangers the future of the union itself.
He added: “EU membership does not provide any security guarantees, because the European Union is not a security organization, the European Union is not a military organization.”
