Putin and Trump to Meet in Alaska for Talks

Ryabkov stated in an interview with the Russian newspaper ‘Izvestia’: “We hope that the upcoming high-level meeting will give momentum to the normalization of bilateral relations, which could lead to the resumption of flights, although it is clear that the leaders will focus on entirely different topics.” Earlier, the Kremlin and the White House reported that Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump would meet in Alaska on August 15. According to Yuri Ushakov, the Russian President’s aide, Steve Whitkov, the special envoy of the American President, mentioned during his visit to Russia at the Kremlin, the option of holding a trilateral meeting between Putin, Trump, and Volodymyr Zelensky. However, the Russian side left the proposal without comment and suggested focusing on preparing for a bilateral summit. President Putin mentioned last Thursday that a meeting with Zelensky is possible, but conditions must be created for such negotiations, which are still far off. Zelensky himself said, before the meeting between Putin and Trump, that he “will not make concessions regarding territories,” according to his statement.
