Peskov told reporters: “It is obvious that issues related to the Ukrainian settlement will be discussed.” Peskov added: “At the moment, of course, it is a big mistake to anticipate and try to predict the outcome.” He clarified that he does not expect any documents to be signed following the summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump in Alaska.

Peskov noted that the visit of the US presidential envoy, Steve Whitkoft, to Russia was fruitful, and continued: “Whitkoft’s recent visit to Moscow was fruitful, indeed very fruitful. We exchanged signals, which allowed us to begin preparations for such a high-level meeting.” Peskov said: “Since a joint press conference (between Putin and Trump) will be held following the summit, the president will naturally define the scope of agreements and understandings reached.”

Peskov pointed out that between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, preparations were completed in a short time, and all criteria were met. The Kremlin and the White House had earlier announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Donald Trump would meet in Alaska. Despite the numerous files expected to be discussed between the presidents, primarily the Ukrainian issue, it is anticipated that there will be potential understandings, especially in light of the intersecting interests of the two countries in the region and the impact of the Ukrainian crisis on the situation in the Middle East, as well as the Palestinian issue, which represents a focal point of tensions in the region.

Experts expect that if an understanding between Putin and Trump occurs in the near term, it will not be concluded from the first meeting on August 15.
